Kohistan is
Persian
word meaning mountainous region or highland ( Koh =mountain, -istan= suffix -
Land) Kohistan 1 formerly being a part of district by the name of KOHISTAN, has
been recently (2002) recognised as independent district. Kohistan Part 1
district with population of 57000 consists of 134 villages, all of them have
been grouped in to five zones, namely Khumzargar (consisted of 55 villages),
Oshturgram (consisted of 30 villages) Puff dam (consisted of five villages)
Balla joye (consisted of 27 villages) and Sanjan (consisted of 17 villages),The
Largest villages are: Deh-a-Khamzargar, Tapazar, Puff dam, Shir khan khil and
Surrat baig khil.each zone is led by 12 leaders, which are member of disctrict's
Shura, it is located 90 KM north of Capital
Kabul
in province of
Kapisa.
