In this episode, we travel to Tashkurgan, an ancient town on the legendary Silk Road, located near the border with Pakistan. Nestled at the crossroads of the Pamir Mountains and the borders of China, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, this unique region is home to the Tajik people of China.
Join me as we explore the historic streets of Tashkurgan, meet the local Tajik community, and discover their language, culture, history, and identity. We'll also experience traditional music and dance performances and visit the ancient Stone City of Tashkurgan, one of the Silk Road's most important historical landmarks.
Along the way, we'll learn about the Pamir languages, the role of the Persian language among parts of the local population, the famous Eagle Square, the symbolism of the "Eagles of the Pamirs," and the traditions that continue to shape the lives of the Tajik people in China today.
As the day comes to an end, we enjoy a breathtaking sunset beside a warm fire, accompanied by local music—a beautiful moment that reminded me of the people of Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor.
